Introducing GEMS: Stern’s New Gaming and Esports Management Society

“Starting a club from the ground up is definitely no small feat, but luckily we have folks who are very passionate”, says Sharon Wei, president of the Gaming and Esports Management Society (GEMS).

Truer words have never been spoken. In a conversation that could have easily gone on for hours, I spoke with Sharon Wei and Aras Scimemi, two of the founding members of GEMS, along with Ismet Jooma, about the new club’s inception, vision, the industry as a whole, and why you should join. I know, I know–you think you’re dead set on consulting or banking. But keep an open mind!…

She spent the early years of her career exploring various creative pursuits – opening her own gallery, working as a product specialist, and taking on different roles at creative agencies, specializing in the video art form. When the pandemic hit, the agency she was working at shut down and she found herself moving back home, unemployed – looking for her next opportunity.…

The 2022 Cannes Film Festival Experience with Stern

In May of this year, 25 Stern MBA students, including myself, attended the 75th edition of the Cannes Film Festival as part of the “Craft and Commerce of Cinema” course in the stunning French Riviera. Professor Al Lieberman led the group along with Professor Paul Hardart, giving us a tour of the famous “Palais” and the festival grounds just moments after landing (what is jetlag?).

Many people think the festival is just for movie premieres, but it is actually a major hub for those in the film industry. The “Marché du Film” attracts buyers, financiers, producers, distributors, and creative talent from all over the world. …

Historical Photography Preservation with NFTs: The Art Form of the Future? Ft. ArtHaus NFT

On a crisp Friday afternoon in late October, as the leaves were on the cusp of exploding into orange flames, I walked into Madman Espresso to meet Hank O’Neal.

I had first heard of Hank O’Neal a few months ago when I met Suhayb Zarroug, Randy Friedberg, and Franco Valentino to feature their NFT photography venture on The Oppy. Little did I know that Hank has been a prolific character in New York’s photography and jazz music scene for the past few decades, after he spent a number of years working for the Central Intelligence Agency. So what does an ex-CIA agent, renowned photographer, and record label owner have to do with NFTs? …

Stern Singles Presents: Jeremy Kim

Sternie Testimonials:

“I have known Jeremy since we were Freshmen at NYU when he wore Abercrombie polos and had no facial hair. He recently officiated my wedding — best officiant ever. Jeremy is always kind and sassy when he needs to be. He’s incredibly supportive and loyal to the people he cares about. Some of his oldest friends call him Jer Bear because he’s cuddly but the claws come out if you mess with his people! He’s also cool as a cucumber in stressful situations and really good at problem solving so you definitely want him on your bank heist crew.”

NASA’s DART Mission Success (Hopefully) Means We Won’t Be Wiped Out Like the Dinosaurs…

… just by war or climate change.

According to NASA, “DART is the first-ever mission dedicated to investigating and demonstrating one method of asteroid deflection by changing an asteroid’s motion in space through kinetic impact”. This means NASA has DART collide with an asteroid deliberately to change its speed and path i.e., the orbit.

Launched last year, DART targeted the asteroid system “Didymos” which comprises the asteroid Didymos and another asteroid that orbits it called “Dimorphos”. Neither of these objects posed (or poses) any threat to Earth. DART collided with “Dimorphos” and successfully altered its orbit. Initially, NASA had expected to alter Dimorphos’ orbit by around 10 minutes but ended up shortening the orbit by 32 minutes!…

DBi Germany Spring 2022: Racing into Our Hearts

As with all DBis, aspiring MBAs register for a course under the guise of learning about some niche topic specific to the country they will study in but, in reality, they are just looking for an excuse to travel and check out a spot they think will be fun… the Berlin DBi was no different. I’m pretty sure NYU didn’t even post the course curriculum before registration opened (don’t fact check me on this), so we all blindly selected the Berlin DBi with no idea what we were getting ourselves into aside from trying to have a fun time in Germany.…
