We are proud to continue our agony advice column, Dear Oppy: B-School Advice for the Everyday Sternie – “real questions, terrible advice.”

The Oppy can be quite Stern at times but is here to answer the queries and qualms of all MBA students so send them his/her/their way at oppy@stern.nyu.edu or fill this out, anonymously.

Dear Oppy,

I just finished IB recruiting and feel like an outcast. How do I get back into social life?

Sincerely,

Lonely Banker

Dear Banker,

Hold on, let me get this straight. You’re preparing to embark on a career in investment banking and you think now is the time to start a social life? …

Last month, 11 Langone MBAs and five MBA2s spent six days in Panama City, Panama for the elective DBi course Operations in Panama: A man. A plan. A canal. Panama. Taught by Professors Harry Chernoff and Kristen Sosulski since 2012, the course was inspired by Chernoff’s investment in the Tantalo Hotel, a 12-room boutique hotel with a rooftop bar in the city’s historic Casco Viejo district.

Over the week, we learned about the process of transporting goods between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans via the Canal along with a primer on real estate development and entrepreneurship in Panama City.…

Why You Should Consider Doing Leadership Fellows

Leadership Fellows is an innovative group mentorship program for final year MBA students that offers motivated students direct contact with high-level executives and entrepreneurs, intimate roundtable discussions, interactive practice developing leadership skills, and the ongoing support of a mentor. I had first heard about the program from my best friend, who graduated from Stern. He ranked the program as one of his top three experiences at Stern. I started my MBA with absolutely no corporate experience. It was my goal to take advantage of every single opportunity the school offered to develop leadership skills and business acumen. My friend’s ringing endorsement of the Leadership Fellows program was all I needed to hear to know that it was something I wanted to do.…
