Course selection is always a stressful and daunting task, where Sternies decide how to invest thousands of dollars with a few clicks of a button. As an undergrad, each student at my school was pitted against one another for one random day of the semester, selecting courses at the exact same day and time – causing stress, anxiety, frustration – you name it. I appreciate Stern’s lottery system approach, giving each student ample time to conduct research and select courses without the added pressure of a real-time brawl.…

Stern Safari (Zoo) : On November 20th and 21st, 36 Stern students went on an adventure to the Bronx Zoo. There were 30 minute private sessions with an animal of their choice: sloth, penguins, giraffes, fennec fox, or 3-4 surprise animals based on zookeeper choices. We were divided into groups of 6 according to our animal choice. We were delighted to pet adorable animals during the sessions. We also fed the animals some food and enjoyed taking a lot of pictures. After the private sessions, we saw more animals in the zoo, which was also a great opportunity to catch up with classmates.…

Owen Lee, in the most “B-School” way possible, is quick to note he’s a hands-off beekeeper.

“For millions of years bees have managed themselves pretty well,” Lee says. “I’m not adding a lot of value.”

Creating a solid opening structure for a case is part of the basics despite regular hype around it. Strong brainstorming and math are also just fundamental skills, not exceptional. If you are great at frameworks, ideation, and calcs, you will just match the expectations of your interviewers, but it won’t be enough to secure an offer.

Case interview isn’t about solving a case (the majority of candidates usually solve their cases). It is about your ability to talk.

Ms.Talukdar joined Moderna in April 2019 after 20 years as a biotech and healthcare investor. She is an expert in the niche market of investment procurement for mRNA development. Professor Viral Acharya moderated the discussion. Professor Acharya is the C.V. Starr Professor of Economics in the Department of Finance at Stern and an Academic Advisor to the Federal Reserve Banks of New York and Philadelphia. The week of the event, he published a paper on the economic value a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine would bring to society. …
