On January 31, the Stern and Langone student governments (SGOV and LSG, respectively) announced to MBA club presidents the roll-out of a new, comprehensive networking resource available to all Stern graduate students.

The online resource, referred to as the Stern-wide Professional Networking Database, was first introduced to entering full-time MBA students at Fall 2017 LAUNCH as part of orientation programming. The database, which collects information about a student’s program at Stern, their expected graduation date, and roles in past and present industries, also collects and publishes preferred contact information so that peers can reach out to each other directly.

Since the database’s introduction, over 300 students have entered their information in an attempt to make the most of networking opportunities across graduate business programs at Stern.…

On February 13, Stern Speaks, the popular student speaker series for full-time MBA students, launches its part-time counterpart.

The Oppy caught up with Francois Anderson, who co-leads the full-time series, and Dalia Shteinhauz, co-founder of the new Langone program, to find out more about what’s ahead this semester.

Abby Horowitz: All the details! What is Stern Speaks? When did it get started? 

Francois Anderson: Stern Speaks is a space where students can get to know their peers beyond the typical business school conversations surrounding our professional aspirations. Stern Speaks provides a space where speakers can be raw, honest, and vulnerable as they tell their stories in an intimate, judgment-free setting.…

In the first week of the new year, Stern students braved the storms and unprecedented crowds of people at JFK to make their way across the globe for the January 2018 DBi Asia program. After what felt, to many, like weeks spent at various airports, all 38 students and our fearless administrator made it to Singapore for two weeks of lectures, corporate visits, cultural exploration and some much-needed sun and heat!

Through a partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS), students attended lectures on subjects like the future of the Chinese economy, navigating challenging markets such as Indonesia, and negotiating across cultures.…

Throughout our time in South Africa, students on DBi Cape Town were often greeted with a friendly Molweni—or ‘welcome’—in Xhosa, one Cape Town’s many languages. This greeting was commonly heard in Cape Town’s townships—segregated urban areas on the periphery of the city where many were displaced during apartheid. During our two weeks of learning with the University of Cape Town, Stern students spent considerable time in the townships and learning about life and business in the diverse areas of Cape Town.

The commonly considered landscape of Cape Town includes the waterfront, the easily identifiable 2010 World Cup stadium, and the beautiful nature of Table Mountain and its surrounding national park.…
