ANDDDDD WE’RE BACK!

We know you’ve been going through withdrawal without your favorite newspaper giving you nonsensical articles. But much like those five pounds of Covid/holiday weight, we are not going anywhere.

In the first issue of 2021, we have a healthcare professional’s research on the Covid vaccine and its distribution process (spoiler alert: the healthcare professional is me), a clever (and benevolent) way to secure a vaccine in NYC, and two more great Covid Journals: our very own MBA2, Lauren Marinaro and an exchange student from Tel Aviv, Moshe Hildesheimer. We review Professor Scott Galloway’s book, Post Corona: From Crisis to Opportunity. Don’t worry, Prof G. We went easy on you. We turn the spotlight on Dean Raghu Sundaram, who tells us his thoughts on Covid & this last year at Stern.

Because there is more to life than this pandemic (or is there?), i.e. Valentine’s Day, we are proud to share with you our very own “Stern Singles” success story. Don’t worry. For those of you still on the prowl, we have a bachelor to write home about. “Dear Oppy,” on the other hand, isn’t very optimistic about your prospects.

The market, the market, the market. Professor D’Souza gives us the lowdown on short squeezes and what that meant for GameStop. Meanwhile, our AVP of Finance, Dave Kammiel, goes against the grain and tells us why he believes Amazon is not violating antitrust laws.

In Stern Somebody, we chat with Langone student Madeline Grimes, who has gone where few Sternies have gone before: the stage at Carnegie Hall. Erin Pace commemorates Black Futures Month by highlighting the prominent but few and far between Black executive leaders in Fortune 500 companies.

That’s just a taste of what we have in store.

In addition, we are delighted to display the winning new logo for The Oppy. A newspaper for the flame in the torch! How clever are we? Ok, it was really all VP of Technology, Mattia Janigro. He’s a genius.

The Oppy is also starting a monthly playlist curated by the Stern community. Share with us your top current must-listens here! In the meantime, enjoy this month’s OppyArts Spotlight: Ernest Brockenberry-inspired playlist.

Want to contribute to our next issue? Email us with your article ideas! We are also always recruiting Stern Singles. Nominate a classmate…or yourself.

Happy reading,

Deirdre
