It has been an eventful month between the presidential primary elections taking place; COVID-19 becoming a “very high” global risk, as per the World Health Organization; and the consequential impact on the stock market. In addition to that, there was the day-to-day stress of surviving our first month of the 2020 academic year back at Stern and wondering if there actually is going to be any snow this winter. We are persevering, however, and there is now only a week between us and the very much needed Spring Break. While DBis and some treks may have been cancelled, due to CDC recommendations that educational institutes cancel study abroad programs, the school break, whether spent in NYC or away, is very much needed for most of us.
We, at The Oppy, have been paying attention to what has been happening on both micro- and macroscales. We are happy to release the second issue for 2020 of our newspaper with over 20 articles on both current affairs and Stern happenings. In this issue, you will read some political opinion pieces; reports on current market trends; recaps of some school events; interesting interviews with notable Sternies; continuation of features that were started in our last issue; and our new MBA-focused, agony-aunt style, advice column: “Dear Oppy.”
I hope there is something here that interests you and, if there isn’t, that you reach out and contribute to make sure your voice is heard. The Stern Opportunity continues to strive to be the voice of the NYU Stern Graduate Community, but we need your input to reach that lofty goal. We are always only one ranting email away…
Happy reading,
Deirdre
