Always Take the Stairs

MBA2 Tips for New Sternies

Trust in Yourself and Always Take the Stairs

Welcome to Stern! The next couple of weeks will be a whirlwind of new experiences and an overload of information.  But, we promise, the next two years will be some of the most memorable. Of course, that doesn’t mean they will always be easy – as you prepare to embark on a new journey as a Full-Time Sternie, the veteran MBA2s have banded together to give you some lasting advice:

“Relax, it’s all going to come together in the end.”

“Trust in yourself and be open to exploring different career paths. You may find a new passion or interest that you weren’t anticipating.”

“Take the stairs; It helps others and they’re great for the glutes.”

“Don’t stress – everyone gets through first semester. And use your Fridays wisely.”

“Meet new people often. Never eat alone.”

“Be as involved and active as you possibly can without going insane. Everyone’s threshold is different, so find yours!”

“Forget prestige, money, or ease. Be true to what you really want to do.”

“Don’t be afraid to ask questions: the next several months may seem challenging, but your colleagues and friends will keep you going.”

“One of the key outcomes of the program should be strong relationships; (Beer Blast is a must!) I’d like to believe that’s why we are not doing an online program, yes?”

“Plan your courses for second semester early. Ask an MBA2 for course recommendations.”

“Take some time to develop relationships with your professors; join clubs you would never have joined.”

“Keep in mind that recruiting starts EARLY; start thinking about it, even if you’re not entirely sure what you want to do.”

“Learn, very quickly, the power and importance of being able to say ‘Sorry, I’m swamped’.”

“The first semester (and Stern program, for that matter) is going to be over in a flash. Hang on tight. And trust that you’re going to do great. You’re about to embark on one of the most exciting experiences of your life.”

Good luck to all you incoming MBAs!
