Reflections After One Year at Stern2 min read

Hansini Sharma, MBA Class of 2015

Krystal has left a legacy of speaking her mind and unapologetically sharing her thoughts on issues that affect our community every day. Too bad I am shy and not opinionated.

As we head into the second year of our #mbajourney, I promise to talk about the elephants in the room, share random pieces of information that are probably useless but good talking points in a bar, and above all, to hopefully make you smile. Basically, get ready for a big brain dump every two weeks. So without further ado, here we go with a few thoughts after making it through year 1.

Why does the leveling in between KMC and Tisch and KMC part 2 (is there even a name for that extension?) change on these weird ramps? The number of times I have almost eaten it running around in my sky high heels (shout out to the Big D!) is unreasonable. I thought about wearing more practical footwear, but that seemed unreasonable so there’s that. Maybe I should just ride my scooter around.

The East Village stinks. Literally. One time a roach crawled over my foot from underneath a pile of trash, and I almost passed out. Apparently homeowners associations aren’t as active here as one would hope.

We are each other’s biggest assets at Stern. Our interactions inside the classroom and outside the classroom define the tone and legacy of our class, and we are more than just a community – we are family. We are Stern.

People walking slowly in the middle of any public walking space – hallways, sidewalks, and stairwells – is the most infuriating thing in the world.

Why are staplers such a hot commodity? Especially pink ones?

The coffee in Sosnoff is remarkably terrible, and the cups are so ugly. I don’t know why the cups bother me, but they do.

Was it naïve of me to think that bullying stopped when we left high school? I get that the media somehow glamourized bullying with Mean Girls, but it is heartbreaking and embarrassing that we are doing this to each other. We’re a group of hyper competitive, type A people who hate to be the underdog, but being mean to another person is a cop out. Don’t do it. Stop it. Don’t be that person.

I am writing this on May 6, 2014, at 3:31 PM. That means that exactly 260 days, seven hours and 31 minutes have passed since we walked into KMC on the first day of LAUNCH. WHERE HAS THE TIME GONE?! It’s been real, friends. So in the words of my good friend Jay-Z, on to the next one.
