For Caffeine Addicts

By Victoria Fabiano, Langone Class of 2015

So this polar vortex is about to break, but just in case you are looking for you caffeine fix in the close proximity of Stern and you can’t deal with the $1 coffee at school, here is the quick guide to help you warm up.

If you’re venturing to through the snow to Stern from:

The North:
79 Washington Square E: Many of you already know this, but across from Stern there is a green awning that says @theSquare.  That’s an incognito Starbucks that helps the tourists out and I supposedly some new Sternies as well. This location takes dining dollars/campus cash; it’s ok if you have no idea what that is. The hours for this location are a little wonky because they change due to seasonality / when NYU is in operation, so don’t be upset when you get to campus a few minutes early before your Saturday 9am class and have to reroute to Think Coffee.
Usually Monday-Thursday: 7am-12am, Friday: 7am-9pm, Saturday-Sunday: 8am-11pm

The South:
145 Greene St., Aroma Espresso Bar. If you’re looking for something a little bit “upscale” for that inner coffee snob, I mean, connoisseur. This location also has pretty extensive seating for a soho coffee shop, so if you’ve gone stir crazy in KMEC you can hop down here (if you can deal with the bright red interior for extended periods of time…)
7 days a week: 7:00am – 11:00pm

The East:
248 Mercer St., Think Coffee. It’s a great chain, with an array of snacks (including gluten-free items from Sans Bakery) but unfortunately, this location can be death trap in the winter. When you’re juggling books, a backpack and newly acquired coffee, be careful going down those metal stairs – they can be slippery!
Monday- Friday: 7am – 11pm; Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 11pm

The West:
240 Sullivan St., Third Rail Coffee. This place is awesome and it’s right next to Peanut Butter & Co. If you haven’t been to either, I suggest you get there as soon as possible. Third Rail may not have the nicest baristas, but the hand-dripped coffee is “crack” as many yelp reviews tout. It’s cash only and the line can be pretty long during peak hours, but what coffee shop within a few blocks of NYU is not crowded?
Monday – Friday: 7am – 8pm; Saturday – Sunday: 8am – 8pm

There are a myriad of other options around campus, but these are some of my favorites.
